Discovery Isle Students Celebrate Earth Day with Ladybug Release

Students celebrated Earth Dayt by releasing 3,500 beneficial bugs into their schoolyard to help local vegetation

On April 22, students at Discovery Isle Preschool in Carlsbad explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released more than 3,500 ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students were dressed for the occasion in the likeness of ladybugs, wearing red and black clothing and antennae during a ladybug parade.

Leading up to Earth Day, students planted flowers around the school and learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Discovery Isle teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
