Carlsbad Poinsettia Fire

An insider's view of the fires

This last week was very difficult for many of us living
in the San Diego Area.  The wild fires were
absolutely everywhere you looked.  In fact, it was
basically surrounding my development. We live near
epicenter of the Poinsettia fire at  Poinsettia Heights.
My husband was home at the time of the fire and
ended up being a volunteer fire fighter, putting out
several fires in the complex.  I was however in the
Village at the time of the fire and found out by
watching TV.  I was literally shocked to find out that
there was a major fire going on in my neighborhood.
So, I rushed home, or at least I tried to but I was blocked
at every road.  I drove around Carlsbad for about
2 hours before I finally could get near my house.
And then when I did finally get there, I realized that
my development was surrounded by fire on 3 sides.
The police were telling me I needed to leave and
I told them my husband was still in the house.  They
told me that it was very dangerous and that I needed
to get him out of there ASAP.  So I called him and
told him to get the important papers, i.e. insurance papers
and a few items that my daughter was requesting and
get out of there, so he did.  We met in downtown
Carlsbad at Cafe Panini, because we of course were starving
after all that.  Anyway we stayed the night at a local
hotel and prayed that our home would still be there
in the morning.  We really didn't panic we just waited
to see if our home was still there.  In the morning,
we did sneak back into the area to see that our home
was safe and sound.  That was not the case for
some of our neighbors, we lost 4 homes in our complex
plus others that were damaged.  All I can say is Thank  God
and Thank the Fire Fighters for saving as many homes
as they did, considering the fire burnt right up to the
fence surrounding our homes.
Cheers to the Fire Fighters!!!

If you wish to donate to those who suffered losses during the fires go to
