Cannon Art Gallery Biennial Juried Exhibition

The City of Carlsbad’s William D. Cannon Art Gallery has completed selections for “The 2011 Juried Biennial Exhibition,” featuring works in all media by artists who live, work or maintain a studio in San Diego County. The Juried Biennial Exhibition takes place every two years; in the intervening year, four artists from the Biennial are showcased in the Cannon Art Gallery Invitational Exhibition. The 2011 Juried Biennial Exhibition will be held January 30 through March 18, 2011, at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery in the Carlsbad City Library complex, 1775 Dove Lane at El Camino Real.

The 2011 Biennial attracted 245 artists who submitted more than 1100 images for this year’s exhibition. The jurors for the 2011 Biennial were Peter Frank, art critic for the Huffington Post and Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum, and Larry Baza, co-director of Noel-Baza Fine Art, San Diego. They selected 61 works of art by 61 artists, including 24 North County residents. Thirteen artists have had works selected for previous Juried Exhibitions at the Gallery, while 48 are being shown there for the first time. The Juried Biennial contains a wide spectrum of media, including painting, lithography, photography, assemblage, installation, book and fiber arts, and ceramics. From bright abstract paintings and mixed-media sculptures to sculpted ceramics and hand-stitched quilts, the exhibition presents a stimulating and satisfying view of the state of the visual arts in San Diego County.
