Plays by Carlsbad Young Writers

Plays written by students from Carlsbad schools are highlighted in Playwrights Project's "Plays by Carlsbad Young Writers," featuring four entertaining plays that sparkle with brilliance. These scripts were either winners or finalists in the California Young Playwrights Contest, with the winning scripts produced in the "Plays by Young Writers Festival" over the past five years. Three of the plays were written during in-school playwriting residencies conducted by Playwrights Project at Calavera Hills Middle School and Pacific Ridge School: "Idaho Lament" by Ben Kelly, "King of the Couch" by Rory Gallagher and "Shakespeare in Therapy" by Alix Conde. The fourth script, "Trevor" by Ben Kelly, was recently featured as statewide co-winner in the 26th season of "Plays by Young Writers" at the Luceum Theatre in San Diego in April and welcomes back teen actor Dylan Hoffinger to reprise his much-acclaimed role. Distribution of free tickets begins at 6 p.m. both nights.
