In conjunction with the Museum of Making Music’s latest special exhibition, Roots of Reeds, the Museum presents Dr. A.J. Racy, Dr. David Borgo, Souhail Kaspar and Rob Thorsen for a special performance on reed instruments. The musicians will incorporate the sounds of reed instruments from the East Mediterranean region and modern jazz as they share the story of Middle-Eastern reeds in the concert, which takes place Feb. 11, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Internationally acclaimed performer, composer, and professor of ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles, A.J. Racy will perform on a variety of ancient East Mediterranean reed and other instruments. Additionally, David Borgo and Rob Thorsen will perform a selection of Duke Ellington's “tone parallels” compositions —including the Far East Suite— on tenor and soprano saxophones.
