Firefighters Mop Up 10-Acre Carlsbad Fire, Roads Closed

A smokey blaze that charred at least 10 acres in Carlsbad prompted officials to issue evacuations to resident around the Buena Vista Lagoon.

CARLSBAD, CA — Firefighters were able to quell a fire that scorched at least 10-acres in a residential area in Carlsbad, authorities said.

The fire was contained around 2 p.m. Saturday with no structures damaged, the Carlsbad Police Department said.

"Please continue to stay clear of the area while we finish up," police tweeted. "We will let you know when the roads reopen."

Carlsbad police were evacuating areas around the Buena Vista Lagoon: Buena Vista circle, Kremeyer Circle and Laguna Drive near the lagoon, according to police.

"If you see smoke," police tweeted shortly after the fire broke out. "We are at the scene of a brush fire in the area of State Street, Laguna Drive and Buena Vista Circle. Please stay clear of the area while we work on the fire."

High winds were making it difficult for crews to douse the blaze, according to reports from the scene.

Fire crews from multiple agencies battled the blaze around 1:15 p.m. around the Buena Vista Lagoon in Carlsbad. Crews from the Carlsbad Fire Department responded to the area of State Street, Laguna Drive and Buena Vista Circle.

The Oceanside Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol also helped firefighters in the effort.

The public was advised to avoid the area. Police said Carlsbad Boulevard into Oceanside was impacted and drivers should choose an alternate route.
A helicopter scooped up water from the lagoon and dropped it on hot spots at 1:41 p.m., officials said.
