Get to Know Magnolia Elementary's Roberta Schmitt

Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) asks Roberta Schmitt six questions.

As an Education Specialist at , Roberta Schmitt approaches her nearly 30 K-5 students with special needs plus other students to whom she gives the extra assistance they need with a caring professionalism and calm demeanor gained during her 15 years of work in the field. 

CUSD: What do you like best about your job? For sure, the kids! I’m very happy to live in the community where I work; our home is across the  street from , where my son Luke attends. Zach is at .

CUSD: What educator influenced you the most in your life? Without a doubt, my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Welcome. She was super strict and I was scared to death of her, but she taught me how to read.

CUSD: What’s your favorite dessert? Crème brulee!

CUSD: What was your first car? An Oldsmobile Delta 88.  It was already old when I bought it.

CUSD: What do you like to do when you’re not working? I like doing things with my husband Mike and our boys. I enjoy running on the trail near our house. When you get to the top of the hill, you can see people water skiing on Agua Hedionda Lagoon. It’s a beautiful view.

CUSD: Tell us something people may not know about you. I’ve taught all over the world. My husband was in the military, so I worked at schools operated by the Department of Defense in England, Louisiana, Illinois and Idaho. It was a great experience!
