Latin Musicians Los Pinguos Headline Carlsbad City Library Spring Concert

The infectious sound of Spanish guitars, upbeat percussion and harmonizing vocals will claim fans at free concert on April 29.

Los Pinguos came to the U.S. from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban Tres guitar, Peruvian cajón (box-drum), bass and harmonizing vocals. The band formed in 1999, arrived in Los Angeles in 2001 and has since claimed fans worldwide. They’ll have their chance to charm Carlsbad audiences on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. when they perform a free spring concert at Carlsbad City Library’s Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane.

Since winning the audience vote and claiming the grand prize on the television show The Next Big Star, hosted and produced by Ed McMahon of Star Search fame,  Los Pinguos has played with acts such as Ozomatli, Taj Mahal, The Skatalites, The Neville Brothers, Paul Anka, Plácido Domingo and Yerba Buena.

Los Pinguos also appeared at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival with female songstress Suzanne Vega. Their music has been used on TV shows such as The Shield and The L Word, and is featured in the Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson film Imagining Argentina, as well as the Katherine Heigl movie The Ugly Truth. Los Pinguos has appeared on three of the famous Putumayo World Music compilations, Baila!, Radio Latino and most recently, World Party.
