Local Home-Grown Band Going to Hollywood

Recent graduates of Carlsbad High School and a 17-year-old member who is still in school make up the band Space Milk. They hope you come to see them play at their biggest venue to date on Oct. 22: The Roxy on Sunset Blvd.

Remember the name Space Milk because this band is "taking over the world one Milkman at a time," says guitar player Trent Moore.

The band is made up all locals including lead singer Alec Beretz who is only 17-years-old, Trent Moore (guitar), Donni Cardenas (bass), and Trevor Conklin (drums). They went to Carlsbad High together and, "what started as fun in the garage has turned into a serious endeavor," says the Moore.

They are off to the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood this weekend for a show at the famous Roxy Theatre which has seen the likes of John Lennon, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, The Ramones, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Sum 41, and KoRn just to namedrop a few.

Here are some questions Carlsbad Patch had for the young punk band and their answers.

Is The Roxy your biggest venue to book so far?

Find out what's happening in Carlsbadfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

The Roxy is definitely the biggest/most famous venue we have played to date, but more importantly than that, this show is important to the band because it allows us to get some recognition up in L.A. and to play a show on the famous historic sunset strip.

What advice would you give to other young bands?

The best advice we can give younger bands is, "don't give up." Starting out was rough on us, we had no experience and were very lacking in our musicianship and played a large amount of small house shows before we ever got booked at a venue. But, our perseverance and dedication to our music and fans has allowed us to turn what started as jam sessions into full blown shows. Another big tip we could give is treat the venues with respect, the worst thing a band can do is to cut ties with local venues. One last tip is use Facebook and any other forms of advertisement to shamelessly promote your band at every chance.

How can the people of Carlsbad and surrounding areas support you guys?

The number one way Carlsbad can help us out is to turn out for our shows. We love playing to our hometown audience. We have a very loyal fan base that has been a great support to us. Nothing could help us more than coming out to our shows and supporting us...and we promise you won't be disappointed!
