Woman On Electric Bike Dies From Injuries Suffered In Carlsbad Crash

The woman was traveling with her 16-month-old daughter​ on an electric bicycle when the pair collided with a Toyota 4-Runner, police said.

CARLSBAD, CA — An electric bicyclist died Monday after colliding with an SUV over the weekend in Carlsbad.

The 35-year-old woman was traveling with her 16-month-old daughter on an electric bike near the intersection of Basswood Avenue and Valley Street when the pair collided with a Toyota 4-Runner around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

The mother, who was seriously injured, was taken to a local hospital. Police said the child did not appear injured but was also taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Police told Patch Monday morning there were no updates on the conditions of the mother and daughter. By late Monday afternoon, police announced the mother had died.

"The police department is sorry to report that the female cyclist passed away from her injuries at the hospital," the department said in a statement. "The department's thoughts are with this family during this tragic time."

The 42-year-old woman driving the SUV stayed at the crash site and worked with police.

The collision remained under investigation, but police said alcohol and drugs were not considered to be factors in the crash.

"We continue to look for anyone who might have witnessed the collision," Carlsbad police spokesperson Jodee Reyes said.
