Musical Movies will Rock the Library
Sweeney Todd, Nine and Tangled featured in free film series during October.
Carlsbad City Library’s free film series highlights famous musicals during the month of October. All movies are screened at the library’s Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium and begin at 6 p.m. Arrive anytime after 5:30 p.m. to watch special features.
You’ll get in the Halloween mood early with the dark musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on Oct. 12. Benjamin Barker, a.k.a. Sweeney Todd, sets up a barbershop in London with the purpose of creating a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant Mrs. Lovett. Directed by Tim Burton, the film features Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman.
In Nine, Daniel Day-Lewis stars as a famous and arrogant film director who struggles to find meaning in his life while working on his latest movie. He desperately searches for answers and inspiration from his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent and his mother. Features an all-star cast including Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren. Nine will be screened on Oct. 19.

The musical series concludes on Oct. 26 with Disney’s animated film Tangled about Rapunzel, the beautiful princess who has spent her entire life locked in a tower. This fantasy-comedy features the voice of Mandy Moore. “Tangled is a welcome reminder of why we call [Disney] the Magic Kingdom,” cheered the San Diego Union-Tribune.
