Passenger Train Strikes, Kills Woman 'Standing on Tracks' Near Agua Hedionda
The woman died at the scene on Monday afternoon. Her identity had not yet been released early Tuesday.

CARLSBAD, CA - A passenger train struck and killed a pedestrian near Agua Hedionda Lagoon Monday.
The Coaster train was heading north through Carlsbad at about 90 mph about 1:45 p.m. when its operator saw the woman standing on the tracks just north of Tamarack Avenue, according to sheriff's officials.
The engineer activated the train's emergency brakes but was unable to stop it before it hit the pedestrian, Deputy Brian Abraham said.

The woman, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
Rail service through the area was suspended for about 45 minutes due to the fatality, officials said.
