Resident Fatally Shoots North County Home Invasion Suspect
An Oceanside resident shot and killed a home invasion suspect, authorities said.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A resident shot and killed a home invasion suspect in northern San Diego County, authorities said Tuesday.
Police received a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon at 7:22 p.m. Monday in the 4100 block of Diamond Circle in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
The residents were home when a man entered their backyard armed with a rock and a stick, Officer Heather Mitchell said. The suspect entered the residence through a bedroom slider door when a woman was inside the bedroom.

"The suspect threw a rock at a male resident of the home, striking him in the face," Mitchell said. "The male resident retrieved a firearm and shot the suspect."
Police officers and Oceanside Fire Department personnel arrived at the home. Despite attempted lifesaving measures, the suspect died at the scene, Mitchell said.

The case remains under investigation. The names of the resident and suspect were not released.
