Lynch, whose 31-year naval career included serving as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy and commander of an Operation Desert Shield battle group, will address cadets and faculty members on ‘Ship, Shipmate and Self” during the 1:30 p.m. program in the academy’s Cadet Chapel.
As board chairman of NewDay USA, a nationwide mortgage banking firm specializing in home loans for veterans, Lynch also will present a three year $40,000 scholarship to 10th-grade Cadet William Sakrekoff whose stepfather, retired Marine Master Gunnery Sgt. Noah Millsap, died of cancer in 2007. NewDay USA’s scholarship foundation presents scholarships to the children of deceased service members whose death was during or due to their service.
Lynch’s speech is the third in a series of “Warrior Wisdom” presentations by noted leaders on various topics. Last September, retired Army Gen. William Crouch, an academy alumnus, opened the year-long series, speaking to Cadets on leadership adversity.
Founded in 1910, the Army and Navy Academy is a private not-for-profit institution that provides an academically robust, character-based education for young men, grades 7 through 12. It is the only private boarding school in San Diego County and the only military academy for high school-age students in California and surrounding states.
The academy’s mission is “to educate, mentor and develop leadership and good character in young men.”
