SoCal Fire Safety Tips While Decking The Halls This Holiday Season
Cooking, baking, and curling up by the fire are all part of the holidays! Here are helpful tips for keeping safe during your celebrations.
CARLSBAD, CA—With so much cooking, wrapping, and baking this season, the California Fire Foundation encouraged everyone to celebrate safely by following a few vital fire safety tips.
Those include:
- Never leave cooking food unattended, especially when frying, boiling, or broiling.
- Keep potentially flammable kitchen items like dish towels and paper products away from stove tops and hot surfaces.
- Please familiarize yourself with your kitchen appliances and ensure they are in good working condition.
- Choose fresh Christmas trees and keep them well watered to prevent them from drying out and catching fire.
- Use energy-efficient LED lights that produce less heat and reduce fire risk.
- Inspect Christmas lights and ornaments for any damage and replace any frayed cords or broken bulbs.
- Ensure lights used for outdoor decorations are designed to withstand the elements.
- Avoid overloading circuits. Follow manufacturer guidelines.
- Keep electrical cords clear of pathways and away from flammable materials.
- May sure your yard is free from dry leaves, branches and other combustible materials.
- Create a defensible space by maintaining a fire-resistant zone around your home by trimming shrubs and trees
- Monitor local fire conditions and regulations, especially during dry spells
