Woman Fatally Struck By Train In North County

ENCINITAS, CA — A woman was struck and killed by a train over the weekend in northern San Diego County, authorities said.

The deadly collision happened shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Chesterfield Drive and San Elijo Avenue in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The pedestrian was hit by a southbound North County Transit District Coaster train, sheriff's Sgt. Jason King said. She died at the scene.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the woman and determine the cause and manner of her death, King said.
