New California law sets first-in-nation standards for smoke damage in homes (lakeconews.com) — A new California law backed by Carson Assemblymember Mike Gipson will require insurers to presume wildfire smoke damage came from a covered fire and pay for testing and cleanup, setting first-in-the-nation standards. Carson homeowners affected by smoke, even without burned structures, could see clearer insurance obligations and expanded mortgage forbearance options after major disasters.
