• 20 SoCal Students Just Scored $1,000 Scholarships for Being Academic Rockstars (and Pretty Great Humans) (thecreditunionconnection.com) — Students from Carson are among 20 standout scholars across Los Angeles and Orange counties who just received $1,000 scholarships from the California Credit Union Foundation. Local winners include students at the Iovine and Young Center IDTE Magnet and King Drew Magnet High School in Carson, recognized for strong academics, leadership, and community service. The long-running program has awarded nearly half a million dollars since 2005.
   

• Andy Cruz vows different outcome if Muratalla rematch happens after Bell eliminator (boxingnews24.com) — Carson fight fans will see high-stakes boxing up close when Andy Cruz faces unbeaten Albert Bell in an IBF lightweight title eliminator on July 18 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Cruz, coming off a close loss to champion Raymond Muratalla, says he’s learned from that defeat and believes a win in Carson will set up a very different rematch for the world title.
