1 Dead, 1 Injured in Another East Bay Highway Shooting
It happened on Highway 4 - in broad daylight. The report came in at 10:47 a.m. Wednesday. This is at least the 18th recent highway shooting.
Two people were shot while traveling on state Highway 4 this morning in the Pittsburg area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident, which was reported to the CHP at 10:47 a.m., occurred on the highway's westbound side just east of Railroad Avenue.
A caller initially told the CHP that two vehicles collided on the highway and that there were gunshots.

Responding personnel found just one vehicle at the scene, a black Lexus, according to the CHP. The Lexus' two occupants, a man and a woman, were suffering gunshot wounds, CHP officials said.
They were transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment.

There was another vehicle that fled the scene, a newer-model white Mercedes sedan with paper plates, according to the CHP.
No further details on the suspect vehicle were provided.
The Pittsburg Police Department is the agency leading the investigation and CHP is assisting in the case.
Pittsburg police were not immediately available to provide additional details.
There have been at least three other shootings on Highway 4 since November and 18 or more across various highways in Alameda and Contra Costa counties in a recent flurry of highway violence.
