A Castro Valley History Museum Pops Up Today

An arty and avantgarde event is arriving in Castro Valley for a here-today, gone-tomorrow experience.

From 11:00 am to 6:00, CVLegends and the Hayward Area Historical Society present the FREE Castro Valley Pop-Up Museum. 

What's a pop-up museum? Only the coolest, hippest way to drag culture out of museums and into places where it can be seen by everday folks.

Naturally there's a web site that tracking pop-ups and shares tips from the cultural innovators who sponsor them.

In Castro Valley, they include:

1. David Ashton of CVLegends, who revealed the event on Patch;
2. Diane Curry, curator of the Hayward Area Historical Society, whose archives include much about Castro Valley (read more);
3. Heather Mellon who blogs that the pop-up can display juicy tidbits about small town characters. 

The event is geared toward participation.

For instance, there will be a scanning station. Bring photos of your family from around Castro Valley, complete a short form and get the photos scanned.

You get to keep the original images and the Historical Society gets the digital copies to add to its archives. So future exhibitions or presentations could include your family photos and Castro Valley story too.
