• East Bay Man Stole Neighbors Cat, Left It For Dead In Castro Valley Wilderness: Report (patch.com) — A Hayward man has been charged after allegedly trapping his neighbor’s cat and leaving it in a remote area of Castro Valley, where it was later found dead. Investigators reportedly used the cat’s GPS collar and surveillance footage to trace its last movements near Eden Canyon Road, raising concerns for local pet owners about animal safety and neighbor disputes.    

• Rowland Freedom Center to dedicate half-scale Vietnam Wall (timesheraldonline.com) — A Vietnam War memorial in Vacaville will specifically honor Capt. Edmond Landers and also acknowledge soldier Thad Jessiman, who was from Castro Valley. Local residents may wish to attend Friday’s dedication of a half-scale Vietnam Wall section, where a friend of Jessiman’s will share memories of his service and sacrifice.    

• Hayward gas explosion: Desperate escape by severely injured victims described in lawsuit claiming PG&E sought to deceive investigators (mercurynews.com) — A lawsuit over December’s devastating gas explosion in Ashland alleges PG&E and several other parties failed to properly warn residents before a leak ignited, severely injuring a local family. A Castro Valley landlord who owns the damaged home is also named, though she disputes claims about property safety, as investigators continue probing the blast and response on East Lewelling Boulevard.
