The funding will go toward improving the shoreline area in San Leandro.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro has received $1 million in federal funding to improve its shoreline area, city officials said.
San Leandro city officials announced the funding on Thursday, saying it would go toward creating a regional park along the East Bay shoreline, with investments in clean water infrastructure.
"With more than one million visitors each year, San Leandro’s shoreline is a key regional destination," city officials said. "This federal funding will support these efforts by improving infrastructure, expanding access, and enhancing the overall shoreline experience."

The area already has the Monarch Bay Golf Club and Marina Park, which offers walking paths, open spaces and playgrounds. The new funding will be used to create. It's unclear exactly what the new regional park will look like.
The $1.092 million is part of $11.2 million secured by Congressman Lateefah Simmons for 15 projects across the East Bay.

“From Oakland to Emeryville to San Leandro, this funding will make tangible and real differences for people in our district now and for generations to come," Simmons said. "I am excited to see public safety, transit, health, environmental and fire prevention improvements keep the East Bay running and thriving."
