Missing At-Risk Woman Last Seen In Castro Valley Headed For Daily Walk: Deputies (patch.com) β Castro Valley residents are being urged to help locate 69-year-old Ling Ling Pan, who disappeared during her usual morning walk Sunday near the 19000 block of Forest Avenue. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office says she has cognitive and physical ailments, making her especially at risk, and is asking anyone who may have seen her to call them or local law enforcement immediately.

Hayward recreation district gathers community input (tricityvoice.com) β Castro Valley residents are being asked right now to help shape the next 10 years of local parks, trails, and recreation in the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. Through Nov. 20, you can submit ideas online that will inform upcoming virtual civic dialogues and guide HARD's new master plan for facilities and programs across the district.

3. County selects winners of youth poet laureate competition (tricityvoice.com) β Castro Valley Library recently hosted Alameda County's Youth Poet Laureate ceremony, where Dublin student Krishita Kataria was named laureate and Tatiana Hernandez vice laureate. The program, launched in 2021, supports teen poets as they perform, lead community projects, and promote poetry and civic engagement, with more events and collaborations likely to return to the Castro Valley Library.

California Girls Cross Country Performer of the Week (Sep. 28-Oct. 4) (milesplit.com) β Castro Valley cross country standout Iliana Nierengarten is up for California Girls Cross Country Performer of the Week after dominating a WACC Center Meet by nearly a minute. Her 17:47.30 time is the fastest recorded at Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline since 2018, and local fans can support her in an online vote closing Friday afternoon.

'There's a man with a knife': Witness recounts BART scare (berkeleyscanner.com) β A man identified by BART police as a 60-year-old Castro Valley resident was arrested after allegedly trying to shove a rider onto the tracks and cutting a woman at downtown Berkeley station. Witnesses described a frightening scene, praised the rapid police response, and raised concerns about the lack of BART security presence during busy weekend nights.
