Arrest Made In Hayward Murder

The suspect is being held without bail in the January shooting death.

HAYWARD, CA — A suspect in the fatal January shooting of a 53-year-old Hayward man was arrested earlier this month, Hayward police said Tuesday.

Anthony Bergstrom, 53, was arrested on April 6 for allegedly shooting Jesse Nieto to death on Jan. 4, according to police.

Officers were called to the 24000 block of Park Street at about 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 4 to investigate the shooting and found Nieto suffering from one or more gunshot wounds, Hayward police said. Nieto was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bergstrom, a Hayward resident, is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of several offenses related to the shooting, including murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and grand theft, according to jail records.

Bergstrom is scheduled to enter a plea at 9 a.m. on May 4 in the George E. McDonald Hall of Justice in Alameda.
