Bicyclist Killed In Hayward Crash ID'd

The crash happened near an Interstate Highway 880 offramp.

HAYWARD, CA — A Salinas man riding a bicycle was killed Sunday night in Hayward when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau and Hayward police.

Christopher Cassel, 29, was pronounced dead after police responded at 10:30 p.m. to a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle on eastbound Tennyson Road, east of the Interstate Highway 880 off-ramp.

Officers located the driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man, at the scene and he cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe alcohol or other impairments played a role in the collision.

The collision is Hayward's fifth fatal one this year, police said.
