California teacher has been accused of sexually assaulting students

A middle school teacher has been arrested for assaulting a student as well as inappropriately touching several others. North California authorities arrested the middle school teacher on Thursday. According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the teacher at a Millbrae middle school was arrested on Thursday in connection with sexually assaulting students. Between 2007 and 2022, Matthew Garrett, 54, is accused of touching young students.

The teacher is from Taylor Middle School. Matthew Garrett, 54, is a 6th-grade teacher. He has been charged with sexually assaulting a child below 14 years of age. Officials said that they were first informed of the allegations on February 23 this year. He was initially arrested in San Francisco on February 24 at his home when a student claimed he molested them in the period November 2021 and March 2022. The faculty positioned him on administrative leave after the incident. Investigators also found that several allegations against Garrett inappropriately touching minors are as early as 2007.
On Thursday, Garrett was taken into custody at his home in San Francisco. He was charged with 10 counts of sexually abusing a child under the age of 14 and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility. His bail is $5 million.

San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus reportedly said, "Teachers are caretakers entrusted with Abhorrent and in direct opposition to everything that good, selfless teachers stand for is what this suspect is alleged to have done to students under his care.
Millbrae Elementary School District will be providing counseling support to parents for the unfortunate event.
