Son Won't Face Charges In Fatal Stabbing Of Father In Castro Valley: Report

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Alameda County prosecutors decided not to file charges against a 20-year-old man accused of stabbing his father to death while intervening in a family fight at their Castro Valley home earlier this month, according to an East Bay Times report.

After reviewing the case, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office concluded prosecutors could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the 20-year-old stabbed his father in self-defense or while in defense of another person, according to the report.

Eugene Powell's wife screamed and begged for help as he attacked and choked her inside their Parsons Avenue home on Sept. 5, authorities said, according to the report.

Authorities say the 20-year-old heard his mother in distress and came to her aid, stabbing his father in the process.

Officers responded to a family disturbance call at the residence and found the father with stab wounds, authorities said.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.
