Castro Valley Fire Halted Before Reaching Homes

Crow Canyon Road was closed for hours as emergency crews did their jobs.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Firefighters halted flames heading toward homes on Crown Court in Castro Valley Wednesday afternoon. About 3 acres were blackened. An earlier estimate put the fire at 5 acres.

No evacuations were ordered, and no injuries were reported.

A drone was used to search for hot spots after the fire was out.

Crow Canyon Road was closed between Waterford Place/Greenridge to Cull Canyon Road (southbound) to so fire crews could work. Afternoon pickup from school was severely compromised.

At the peak of the fire, crews from the Alameda County Fire Department, Calfire, Camp Parks and East Bay Regional Parks were all on the fire lines. The CHP and Alameda County Sheriff's Office were handling traffic control, and Paramedics Plus was standing by, just in case. The Calfire strike team was stationed in Dublin because of a Red Flag Warning.

The fire was reported at 2:30 p.m. according to the CHP. The fire was completely contained before 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
