Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Awarded to Castro Valley Sanitary District

Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) in recognition of its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2015. This certificate is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting demonstrates our team’s shared goal to provide the community easy and understandable financial reports by strictly adhering with governmental accounting standards,” said Finance Specialist, Kiki Bian.

In order to receive this award, a government agency must demonstrate that its CAFR meets the scope, audit requirements, and legal compliance standards of GFOA. Reviews are performed by GFOA staff and members of GFOA’s Special Review Committee, which comprises individuals from government, the public accounting profession, and academia who possess specialized expertise in governmental financial reporting.

CVSan is a small public agency responsible for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system within the unincorporated community of Castro Valley. CVSan is also in charge of the administration of a refuse collection franchise, implementation and administration of State and local mandated recycling programs, as well as CVSan’s participation in sub-regional wastewater discharge and solid/hazardous waste management agencies.

GFOA represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association's more than 18,000 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions.
