On Saturday, April 25th, Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) coordinated Earth Day and Recycles Day events for the community.
More than 400 membersof the public participated in CVSan’s Earth Day projects throughout Castro Valley. CVSan donated 40 cubic yards of compost and 116 cubic yards of mulch. Alameda County Industries (ACI) collected 5,000 pounds of plant debris gathered by volunteers for composting. In recognition of their efforts, volunteers were invited to select a charity for CVSan to donate to on their behalf. The following charities were selected and will receive funds at the July 28th CVSan Board meeting: The Center for the Dance (Dance Live Dream), $315.00; Castro Valley Adult & Career Education Strides Program, $440.00; and ForestR.org, $770.00.
More than 1,375 CVSan residential households and businesses attended CVSan’s Recycles Day event at Canyon Middle School to drop off textiles, documents for shredding, and e-waste for reuse or recycling. A total of 13,050 pounds of textiles were collected and more than 3,725 one-cubic-foot bags of compost were distributed to attendees.
