CVSan Freezes Sewer Capacity Rates

CASTRO VALLEY, CA – Castro Valley Sanitary District’s (CVSan) Board of Directors is maintaining its sewer capacity fee at its current rate for the next calendar year. This decision was made even though a third-party rate study, conducted by Bartle Wells Associates, recommended a rate increase.

Sewer capacity fees are charged whenever there is a new or expanded connection to CVSan’s wastewater system. The revenue from these rates is used to cover the cost of replacing, updating, and maintaining CVSan’s wastewater infrastructure.

The study recommended that CVSan raise its sewer capacity rate from $15,026 to $15,538 for single-family residences. “Since there has been increase in the amount of new construction in Castro Valley, CVSan will be able to meet its overall budget for this fiscal year without raising the capacity fee,” explained Roland Williams, General Manager. CVSan’s current capacity rate will remain in place until it is reevaluated for the 2019 calendar year.
