CVSan Holds Recognition Event for Castro Valley School Custodians
Darrell Lee, Stafont Smith, and Kim Cannon were recognized for their efforts to help schools reduce waste.
School Custodians go out of their way to help schools reduce waste. Schools in Castro Valley have high recycling and composting or “diversion” rates (average 82%) in large part due to the efforts of custodians. Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) recognized school custodians during the 8th CVSan Custodian Recognition Luncheon at Castro Valley Center for the Arts at Castro Valley High School on Thursday, June 13, 2019. All Castro Valley School Custodians and School Administration were invited.
Awards were given out to the following Custodians:
- The Dan Curry Custodian Program of the Year Award: Darrell Lee of Marshall Elementary School.
- The Custodian Good Green Attitude Award: Stafont Smith of Vannoy Elementary School.
- The Custodian 4Rs Educator of the Year Award: Kim Cannon of Independent Elementary School.
More than 50 people were in attendance, including most of the Castro Valley Unified School District Custodians and Maintenance staff, as well as Operations Supervisor Charlotte Irwin, Castro Valley Unified School Board member Gary Howard, and CVUSD Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi. Castro Valley Sanitary District Board Members Ralph Johnson and Dave Sadoff, CVSan General Manager Roland Williams, and CVSan staff members Naomi Lue, Jordan Figueiredo, and Kaitlin Lowe were also present.
