CVSan Receives Operating Budget Excellence Award

CASTRO VALLEY, CA – The Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) has received the Operating Budget Excellence Award from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) for its fiscal year 2017/18 budget. This is the first year that CVSan has applied to receive this honor.

The Operating Budget Excellence Award is not the first recognition of financial excellence that CVSan has received. CVSan was also awarded two Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its fiscal year 2015/16 and 2014/15 Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR). The GFOA Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“CVSan has always been committed to being as fiscally responsible and transparent as possible with its finances. These awards will allow Castro Valley residents to be confident that their tax dollars are being managed effectively.” explained Roland Williams, General Manager.

CVSan budgets are documents used for planning CVSan’s spending for a two-fiscal year cycle. CAFRs are prepared annually, and present the prior year’s financial activity in the form of an audit and a ten-year review of financial and statistical information.
