CVSan’s Earth Day 2017 Events

For many of us, Earth Day is every day. We work to conserve water and energy, use reusable shopping bags and water bottles, and recycle and compost to reduce what we send to landfill. Every year Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) hosts an Earth Day Clean-Up and Recycles Day to provide a local opportunity for volunteers to show their spirit. Save the date for this year’s events on Saturday, April 29th.

Register online at www.cvsan.org/ED by April 17th to participate in the Earth Day Clean-Up event. Following a free continental breakfast, clean-ups will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Adobe Park, Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area, Castro Valley Creek, Downtown Castro Valley, and Lake Chabot Regional Park. Additional clean-up events will take place at various Castro Valley schools. To register for a school clean-up, contact the school’s main office.

During registration Earth Day volunteers will have the opportunity to select a local charity to receive a $5.00 donation on their behalf. This year’s charity groups include Castro Valley Sports Foundation, Dusty Paws Rescue, Inc., and Friends of San Lorenzo Creek. These charities were selected by CVSan’s Community Advisory Committee, a ten-member volunteer group that represents the community’s interests by providing a voice directly to the CVSan Board of Directors.

The Recycles Day event will be held at Canyon Middle School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for CVSan customers. E-waste, used cooking oil, documents for shredding, and mattresses will be accepted. Recycles Day participants can also receive three free bags of compost and a Construction & Demolition Voucher to drop off two cubic yards of materials at the Davis Street Transfer Station. Compost and vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
