CVSan’s Earth Day 2018 Events

For many of us, Earth Day is every day. We work to conserve water and energy, use cloth shopping bags and reusable water bottles, and recycle and compost to reduce what we send to landfill. Every year, Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) hosts Earth Day: Clean-Up and Recycle to provide a local opportunity for volunteers to show their spirit. Save the date for this year’s event on Saturday, April 28th.

Register online at www.cvsan.org/ED by April 16th to participate in the Earth Day Clean-Up. Following a free continental breakfast, clean-ups will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Castro Valley Arts Center, Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area, Castro Valley Creek, Downtown Castro Valley, Lake Chabot Regional Park, and Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park. Additional clean-up events will take place at various Castro Valley schools. To register for a school clean-up, contact the school’s main office.

During registration, volunteers will have the opportunity to select a local charity to receive a $5.00 donation on their behalf. This year’s charity groups include Alameda County Food Bank, Kiwanis Club, and Rotary Club of Castro Valley. These charities were selected by CVSan’s Community Advisory Committee, a 10-member volunteer group that represents the community’s interests by providing a voice directly to the CVSan Board of Directors.

CVSan customers are invited to recycle e-waste, used cooking oil, documents for shredding, and tires at Canyon Middle School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For a complete list of accepted items, visit www.cvsan.org/RecyclesDay. CVSan customers can also receive three bags of compost and a Construction & Demolition Voucher to drop off two cubic yards of materials at the Davis Street Transfer Station in San Leandro. Compost and vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
