CVSan Wins Five Awards for 4Rs Student Activity Book and Food Waste Prevention Shopping Cart Advertisements
CVSan wins five awards from CAPIO!

Castro Valley Sanitary District’s (CVSan) 4Rs Student Activity Book and Food Waste Prevention Shopping Cart Advertisements were selected by the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) to receive five 2016 Communication in Excellence Awards in the categories of Writing, Graphics-Illustrations, Brochures-Booklets, Most Improved Publication, and Posters-Decals. CAPIO’s awards recognize and honor outstanding professional work and accomplishment; and CVSan’s 4Rs Student Activity Book and Food Waste Prevention Shopping Cart Advertisements represent standards of excellence and creativity.
4Rs Student Activity Book
CVSan staff designed and developed a new activity book for CVSan’s 4Rs Field Trips for third grade students. The book correlates to common core state standards and explains zero waste through the tenets of the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rot).
Food Waste Prevention Shopping Cart Advertisements
To educate residents on how to prevent food waste, CVSan staff designed and developed easy-to-implement tips on shopping carts at local supermarkets. Tips included topics such as preventing waste in home refrigerators and almost all “expiration” dates are really peak freshness dates.
