CVSan Zero Waste Characters Movie Awarded at State Level

For more than 20 years, Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) has been presenting a 4Rs Field Trip to Castro Valley third graders, allowing students to learn about Zero Waste and the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot) hands-on.

Last year CVSan added a new element to its field trips – an animated Zero Waste Characters movie featuring its Zero Waste characters. Zero Waste Supervisor Naomi Lue and Zero Waste Specialist Jordan Figueiredo, along with Castro Valley High School student Angelina Retodo, conceptualized, story-boarded, designed, developed, edited, and animated the six-minute movie. Retodo was matched with CVSan through an internship program organized by Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce.

On April 10th CVSan was honored to receive the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO)’s 1st place EPIC Award for Video Production – Long Form for Small/Medium Population Agencies for its Zero Waste Characters movie. CAPIO is a statewide membership organization serving more than 600 professionals who work in public sector communications.
