Man Douses Denny's Patrons With Gasoline, Tries To Start Fire, Hayward Police Say
Everyday heroes: police credit restaurant patrons for stopping the suspect before he could light the people on fire.

HAYWARD,CA - Heroes stepped in to prevent a tragedy at a Denny's restaurant in Hayward Wednesday night, according to Hayward Police Sgt. Ruben Pola. A man doused several patrons with gasoline, then tried to light a fire, according to Pola. Other patrons stopped the suspect and held him down.
Police arrested the suspect. No injuries were reported.
At 9:54 a.m., police received a report of the incident at the Denny's restaurant at 30163 Industrial Blvd.

Pola said the male suspect allegedly put gasoline on several restaurant patrons and the restaurant floor, then tried to light the floor on fire, but restaurant patrons intervened and held him down before a fire could
be started.
The suspect briefly escaped, but was soon arrested by Hayward police. His name has not yet been released.
