Domestic Dispute Suspect Dies In Shooting By Hayward Police
The suspect was shot near I-580 and Eden Canyon Road as he tried to carjack a vehicle, police said.
HAYWARD, CA — A suspect in a domestic dispute is dead following a chase by Hayward police Monday morning, police said.
Events unfolded before 10 a.m. on Gary Drive near Strobridge Elementary School in Hayward and ended with police shooting the suspect as he tried to carjack a vehicle near Interstate Highway 580 and Eden Canyon Road.
Officers were sent to Gary Drive regarding the dispute, Hayward police spokesperson Officer Cassondra Fovel said. The suspect went to the home of domestic partner and fired a gun after he was asked to leave and was locked out of the home.

Police don't believe anyone was injured in that shooting. Officers saw the suspect and a vehicle chase began, Fovel said. The suspect drove at the speed limit through Hayward and onto eastbound Highway 580, Fovel said.
The suspect got off the freeway at Eden Canyon Road and lost control of the vehicle when officers intervened. The vehicle went into an embankment, Fovel said.

The suspect got out and started running as officers approached the vehicle, Fovel said. Officers chased him and opened fire when he tried to carjack another vehicle in the area.
At least one bullet hit the suspect. He was pronounced dead at a hospital, Fovel said.
The victim of the attempted carjacking escaped injury, Fovel said.

Fovel said the suspect was holding a gun as he ran about a quarter of a mile and attempted the carjacking.
An officer was injured and went to a hospital after the officer got pinned between a patrol vehicle and the suspect's vehicle, Fovel said. The officer is expected to live.
Fovel said the suspect carjacked a separate vehicle earlier Monday morning in Emeryville.
