Las Positas men pile up 103 points; Kol leads Hawk women with 33

Hawks' 6-foot-10 big men Anand Hundal and Peter Hewitt have double-doubles in Coast-North triumph

The Las Positas men’s basketball team was large and in charge in a 103-82 win over visiting Chabot on Friday in the Coast Conference-North Division. The victory marked the fourth time the Hawks have scored at least 99 points in a game this season.

Anand Hundal, a 6-foot-10 sophomore out of Manteca, led the way with game highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Peter Hewitt, a 6-foot-10 freshman out of Saint Francis, also had a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. The two big men also combined for nine assists.

Guard Justin Bayliss came off the bench to score a season-high 19 points, including going a dead-eye 4 for 6 from 3-point range.

The Hawks (14-7, 2-3) will next host Skyline on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Hawks will look to avenge a 71-69 loss to the Trojans in the Skyline Tournament final on Dec. 10, when guard Nick Evans paced Las Positas with 17 points.

The Hawks will close the week at Ohlone on Friday when they will try to sweep the season series against the Renegades. They beat Ohlone 88-79 in overtime in the teams’ Coast-North openers on Jan. 3. Jason Augliera sparked Las Positas with 17 points off the bench, including converting 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Hundal and Hewitt combined for 35 points and 27 boards.

Women’s basketball

Jenna Kol had a season-high 33 points and Alexis Caringal had a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards against state-ranked Chabot on Friday in the Coast-North. Ashley Hart chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Kol has scored at least 20 points in four of her last six games, also including 30 against College of San Mateo on Jan. 10.

The Hawks will look to enjoy a bounce-back week when they host Skyline at 5 p.m. Wednesday and travel to Ohlone on Friday.
