Student Tip Led To Gun Arrest At San Lorenzo High School
The student was arrested in class, according to the sheriff's office.

SAN LORENZO, CA — A tip from another student led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male student at San Lorenzo High School in unincorporated Alameda County early this afternoon for carrying a loaded 9 mm Glock handgun to class, an Alameda County sheriff's spokesman said.
Sgt. Ray Kelly said the 16-year-old was detained in a classroom without incident at about 12:45 p.m. after a fellow student told staff members at the school at 50 E. Lewelling Blvd. in San Lorenzo that the
16-year-old might have a gun.
Staff members then alerted a sheriff's deputy who works as a school resource officer at the school and authorities quickly identified the 16-year-old and figured out which classroom he was in, according to Kelly.

The deputy and other officers then entered that classroom and detained the student without causing much disruption.
Investigators found the Glock handgun, which was stolen and was loaded with 12 rounds, in the student's backpack, according to Kelly.

The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded handgun, carrying a concealed weapon and other offenses and was taken to Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro, Kelly said.
Investigators haven't found any evidence the 16-year-old had a plot to use the gun on campus but are glad he was arrested because he might have planned to use the gun somewhere else after school, according to Kelly.
"We have zero tolerance for bringing guns to school so the student who reported the gun did the right thing and we're very proud of him," Kelly said.
