Victory, CVHS Becomes NorCal State Science Champs!
CVHS Science Olympiad Team beats the favorites that took 2nd place at Nationals last year.
What does this little town of Castro Valley have? Well, they got only two Safeways and got Lucky only once! And, they only have one ranked highschool. But, In a stunning victory, on April 22, Castro Valley’s highschool Science Olympiad Team Xenon won the Science Olympiad State Tournament. Thus, Castro Valley has become the home of the NorCal State Champion Science Olympiad Team! And, on May 20, they ascend to the National Tournament in Wichita, Kansas!

Castro Valley took home 17 medals out of 23 science subjects. The subjects ranged from astronomy and anatomy to cell biology, geology, ecology, and environmental chemistry. They even designed experiments and had technical writing contests. Did they build stuff? Yes! In fact, Castro Valley is known for killing it in builds. They built wi-fi antennas and bridges and catapults and vehicles and airplanes, bolstering their physics prowess. And they also worked with electronics and coded on microcontrollers.
Castro Valley middle school teams, Creekside and Canyon also won their Regional tournaments and competed at State in their division, earning a strong 7th and 11th place, respectively, out of 28 teams. Creekside took 7 medals and placed top-10 in 17 subjects and Canyon earned 3 medals top-10ed in 8.

What’s Science Olympiad? Well, it's only the premiere science competition in the nation. 7800 science-loving students compete in Science Olympiad each year and only the smartest ones make it past the Regionals and State tournaments. And now, that little town with only one high school is going to face 60 of the best science teams in the country!
The National Science Olympiad Tournament happens on May 20 in Wichita, Kansas. They dreamed and worked hard for this. Now, they could use some help getting there.
