Man Killed in Castro Valley Parking Lot Identified

The victim worked at a hip-hop production studio housed in the office complex on Lake Chabot Road. Medical offices fill the other units.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA - A man shot behind an office complex in Castro Valley on Sunday night was identified as an Oakley resident who worked at a hip-hop studio based in one of the offices, an Alameda County sheriff's sergeant said.

Alexander Jacob Martinez, 27, was found shot in the head at about 10:30 p.m. in a secluded parking lot behind the complex at 19830 Lake Chabot Road. He was taken to Eden Medical Center, located just down the street, but died there early Monday morning, Sgt. Ray Kelly said.

The four-unit office complex houses three medical offices and hip-hop production studio Trak Nation, which has provided production for Bay Area rappers such as Dru Down and Keak da Sneak.

According to Martinez's Facebook page, he was an "audio finesser" for Trak Nation. He had been at the studio in the hours before he was shot and had a meeting with a friend and the suspect, according to Kelly.

Investigators are still trying to determine what the meeting was about.

The suspect shot Martinez in the head and then fled the area. The friend also fled, though he has since been located and interviewed by sheriff's investigators. He has been cooperative and is not considered a suspect, Kelly said.

Investigators have obtained only a vague description of the suspect so far, but are canvassing the area for more witnesses and looking for relevant surveillance footage.
