HAYWARD, CA — A Tesla semi-truck completely shut down I-880 in Hayward Tuesday evening after it suddenly combusted, authorities said.
It's unclear what caused the semi-truck to catch fire. California Highway Patrol around 8 p.m. said officers closed the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway "due to potential risk of hazardous chemical smoke."
"For everyone’s safety, please avoid the affected area while emergency personnel work to contain the fire and address potential hazards," authorities said in an online statement.
