New Assistant Principal Appointed At Canyon Middle School

Marie Roberts to bring 10-plus years of school administrative background to the role.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A new assistant principal at Canyon Middle School in Castro Valley was selected by the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education, officials announced last week.

Marie Roberts, who has more than a decade of experience in school administration, will take over the role at the Cull Canyon Road school, that serves nearly 1,300 students in grades 6-8.

"As an English teacher and AVID Coordinator, Ms. Roberts motivated and guided students to reach their potential academically in the AVID program," the board said, adding that she also supported students after high school by guiding them to apply for scholarships totaling more than $1 million.

Using data to develop instruction to support English learners also remains at the forefront of her career mission, staff said.

Roberts has a master of arts in education, technology from San Francisco State University and a bachelor of arts in English from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA.

She currently is working on her doctorate in educational leadership from East Carolina University, according to district officials.

"Ms. Roberts comes to us with excellent credentials and years of successful administrative experience in public school," said CVUSD Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi. "We are fortunate to have her on our team.”
