Newsom Announces $50K Reward For Unsolved Murder In Alameda County
Lamar Murphy was a Hayward High School football player who was shot and killed in January 2017.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA – Gavin Newsom is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the 2017 killing of 16-year-old Lamar Murphy, the governor’s office announced in a news release Wednesday.
Murphy was a Hayward High School football player who, according to the release, was shot and killed in January 2017 while riding his bike in Alameda County.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has currently exhausted all leads and is requesting that anyone with information about the case contact investigators at 510-667-3636, the release said, adding that Murphy’s family is also offering a $10,000 reward.

According to California’s Office of the Governor, the governor is allowed by law to offer a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction for certain crimes. This reward can be increased to $100,000 for certain crimes against first responders or for “arson upon a place of worship,” the office said.
The governor can only offer these rewards after a recommendation from law enforcement, according to the governor’s office.
