Park District Appoints New General Manager
The new Hayward Area Recreation and Park District Manager formerly served in Dublin.

A new general manager has been appointed at the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, district officials said. Paul McCreary will take over for John Gouveia, who retired Wednesday after 40 years with the district. McCreary formerly served as the Parks and Community Services Director in Dublin.
McCreary has 23 years of experience in the field of recreation, encompassing programming, land acquisition, capital projects and planning and park development, district officials said. Gouveia began his career with the district as a part-time employee and rose to general manager in 2012. He previously served as a recreation supervisor and was promoted to public information supervisor and to business manager before general manager.
District officials said they are grateful for Gouveia’s achievements. McCreary earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Park and Recreation Administration from California State University at Chico and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco.
