An early morning burglary of a popular Castro Valley coffee shop left business owner Faisal “Sal” Amin dismayed and scrambling for a new cash register this week.
According to Sarah Amin, Cafe Rumi was burglarized around 5:45 a.m. on Thursday after a man threw a large rock through the front door of the eatery.

The burglary at 4799 Heyer Avenue was caught on camera, the owners said. The video shows a dark-skinned male throw a rock through the bottom portion of the cafe door. The suspect climbs through the hole, disappears from the shot for several seconds and leaves the same way he entered with cash register in hand— all in under a minute. Amin says the man, along with a second unidentified suspect, were seen on the tape driving a silver or beige colored car, believed to possibly be a Volvo.
