Woman Injured in San Lorenzo House Fire

Fire investigators say the blaze was caused by an unattended candle.

SAN LORENZO, CA — A woman was injured in a one-alarm house fire apparently caused by an unattended candle in San Lorenzo this morning, according to Alameda County fire officials.

The blaze was reported at 6:49 a.m. at a house in the 300 block of Hacienda Avenue just west of Interstate Highway 880.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire within about 20 minutes.

Two residents were in the home at the time of the blaze and one had tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher before crews arrived but was unsuccessful, fire officials said.

Both residents were able to exit before firefighters arrived but one, a woman, suffered smoke inhalation injuries. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, fire officials said.

The bedroom where the fire started is a total loss and there is also smoke damage throughout the home, according to fire officials.
