• One law firm represents over half of Stanislaus County's cities. Are people concerned? (modbee.com) — Ceres residents are paying nearly $430,000 this fiscal year to the White Brenner law firm, which represents more than half of Stanislaus County’s cities and is facing questions elsewhere about billing and conflicts. Ceres’ mayor says his experience is positive but acknowledges council concerns over rising legal costs tied to litigation. The story also details billing errors and scrutiny from other cities and a civil grand jury.

• Coroner identifies Ceres man killed in Modesto-area crash (modbee.com) — A 29-year-old Ceres resident, Luis Eduardo Naranjo Castro, was killed in a two-vehicle collision west of Modesto on July 16, according to the county coroner. Authorities say a Rivian SUV turned into his pickup’s path, and investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors. Friends have launched a fundraiser to help his family with funeral and repatriation costs.

What it's doing (modbee.com) — Ceres police recently helped shut down a planned street takeover near Smyrna Park, impounding 13 bikes and e-motorcycles and issuing numerous citations with help from regional agencies. Now Riverbank is holding a public meeting Monday on how it’s tackling reckless group bicycling. Local residents can hear from police, the mayor and school leaders about enforcement and safety ideas.
