Cerritos Crime Recap: Burglaries, Other Thefts Down in Town

Editor's Note: The information below comes from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Cerritos Station's weekly crime summary. 

Part I felony crime investigations dropped from 15 to 12 last week. Commercial/”other structure” burglaries were up, residential burglaries and locker burglaries remained the same, while robberies, vehicle burglaries and vehicle thefts dropped. 

Calls for service handled by patrol personnel also dropped after 281 were logged compared to 299 the week before. The new 2013 weekly average in calls for service is now 301.

There were no robberies reported last week. Two were investigated the previous reporting period.

Residential burglaries remained the same at one last week. A kitchen window was forced open with laptop computers and watches the reported losses. The 2013 weekly average in residential burglaries is currently 4.3.

There were three commercial /“other structure” burglaries reported. None had been investigated the previous week. A storage room was the crime scene where a wallet and credit cards were stolen. A vacant building was entered with no loss and checks were taken from an open business. The 2013 weekly average in “other structure”/commercial burglaries is 2.7.

One locker burglary was investigated, the same as the week before. A bag, ID and clothes were removed after the lock was apparently compromised.

Vehicle burglaries were down from five to three last week.  Two of the crime scenes were in high-volume commercial parking lots and two were SUVs. A GPS unit, tools, a purse and a wallet were missing. The new 2013 weekly average in vehicle burglaries is 6.4. 

Vehicle thefts dropped from four to two. An SUV was taken from a high-volume commercial parking lot and a Mazda from a residential street. The 2013 weekly average in vehicle thefts is now 4.2.
